Shipping Dangerous Goods
(Flammable Material)

These instructions are intended as a guide to assist you in arranging for delivery of samples to the laboratory. You should be completely familiar with, and obey all of the laws and regulation concerning shipping dangerous goods. Herguth Laboratories, Inc., its officers or employees are not responsible for your shipment.

Dangerous Goods
Dangerous goods (hazardous materials) for the purpose of this discussion are gasoline and diesel fuel with a flash point equal to or less than 140 degrees Fahrenheit. (Oil and diesel fuel are not considered hazardous when the flash point is greater than 140 degress Fahrenheit.)

If the packaging and quantity of gasoline shipped does not exceed the parameters listed below, it can be shipped using a simple shipping container sticker (see Form #1) as the only additional documentation as compared to non-hazardous material.

Parameters for Use of Form # 1 Only
Gasoline must be packaged according to packaging instructions in PACKAGING section of this document AND any single container cannot exceed 1 ounce (~29ml) AND the total volume of gasoline in any one box cannot exceed 16 ounces (~500ml). For more information about the quantity of sample required for a specific analysis see the test method list in the document of call the laboratory.

When shipping gasoline, United States Department of Transportation (DOT) cans are required ( see photo in supplies section of this document). These shipping cans are available from Herguth Laboratories, Inc. The DOT cans and boxes are already properly marked all that needs to be done is put the United Nations# (UN) and fill out all the proper paperwork: UN1203-Gasoline, UN1202-Diesel Fuel.

*For simplicity in paperwork and safety NEVER ship more than .5L (500ml) of gasoline under this program.

Proper Paperwork Dangerous Goods
Dangerous goods shipped within the US require the use of the FedEx Shipper’s Declaration as shown in the forms section of this document FORM #2. It needs to be typed and with no errors. The abbreviation term LTD QTY means, limited quantity.

Place forms inside the clear pouch that has been provided and attached it to the outside of the box. Place the “flammable liquid” label on the outside of the box. When applicable.

1) Where it has “TRANSPORT DETAILS” you have to delete “cargo aircraft only”. This is because it’s only a 0.5L gasoline sample.
2) Where it has “non-radioactive” or “radioactive” delete radioactive.
3) At the bottom there asking for an “EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER” enter 800-645-5227
4) Where the signature is required at the bottom make sure that you do not make a mistake. This form has to be typed with no mistakes, erasers or white out.
